Most landlords are fairly proactive when tenant safety is involved. However, some don’t know enough about what’s expected of them to be proactive, which is a shame.
Let’s talk about what’s expected of you as a landlord.
The Landlord’s Obligations
- – You have to make sure all safety standards are met, according to national guidelines.
- – You have to make sure that all of the electrical components are properly tested at least once every five years.
- – You need to make sure you get the report from whoever did the test, and this report must contain both the results and the date of the next inspection. You then legally have to provide your tenant with said report.
- – If there is a current report, your tenant must have it before they move in.
- – You must provide the report to any tenant if they ask for it within 28 days, and give it to any inspector within 7 days.
